Natural-looking Dental Bridges for a Complete, Healthy Smile
Tooth loss does more harm than just spoiling your smile. Missing teeth affect your oral function by impeding your chewing and speaking ability. Furthermore, mouth spaces cause nearby teeth to shift, affecting teeth alignment. This causes jaw issues and pain. And that’s not all. Patients with one or more missing teeth experience bone loss, not to mention changes in their facial appearance.
Luckily, you don’t have to live with tooth loss. Cascadia Family Dental in Bend, Oregon, offers natural-looking dental bridges to restore what disease or injury has robbed from you.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge consists of one or more porcelain teeth placed on the space without teeth. Traditional dental bridges consist of two parts:
- Abutment teeth: These are healthy teeth on either side of the gap that support a bridge. Abutment teeth could be your natural teeth or dental implants. The abutment teeth are fitted with dental crowns to anchor the bridge securely.
- Pontics: They are “false” or “artificial” teeth placed between the abutment teeth to fill the edentulous gap. Depending on the number of teeth missing, there can be more than one pontic.
While dental implants are perfect for teeth replacement, not all patients are prime candidates. Fixed or permanent dental bridges can be an ideal tooth replacement for such patients.
The dental bridge procedure
You need at least 2-3 dental appointments to benefit from dental bridges. During your initial visit, we evaluate your dental health to determine your eligibility for a dental bridge. If we establish that a dental bridge is right for you, we prepare your abutment teeth to create space for a crown. Of course, this procedure is done after numbing your mouth to minimize discomfort.
Next, we take your oral impressions to be used by the lab technician to fabricate your dental restoration. We will install a temporary bridge to protect your prepped teeth until your permanent dental bridge is ready.
When your dental bridge is ready, you will book another appointment with Dr. Jared Adams for installation using dental cement. However, your dental bridge needs several adjustments to ensure your bite feels natural. But when everything falls in place, your dental bridge will make you forget your lost teeth.

A bridge is a non-surgical way to replace one or many teeth. A bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors to support the missing tooth or teeth. With today’s dental advancements, a bridge can be fabricated in a fairly short period of time, using a metal or nonmetal foundation. Don’t let that missing tooth affect the way you speak, eat, and smile. Bridges yield immediate results that last a lifetime. Ask your dentist what type of bridge may be right for you.
